Gatlinburg TN April 2011

What a week up in the mountains!  First of all, I have to say this before I forget.  When we finally got settled in our cabin, we did some reviews on restaurants for the week.  Steve searched for "Number 1" restaurant.........................and guess what popped up?  McDonald's earned 5 STARS!!!!!  We haven't been yet; hope we don't need reservations!!!

So, we got here, and of course, being the Burnett's, something goes wrong.  I had changed our arrival dates TO ACCOMODATE THE OWNER and she forgot to tell the property manager.  When we arrived, I opened the door and there was someone else's stuff all over the cabin!  SO happy the couple wasn't here when I intruded!!!  Anyway, they put us up in a cabin up the street, moved us back the next afternoon, which meant unpacking and moving again!

But we made it and we had a hot tub on the deck and we were ready  to soak!!  Just as we slipped into the hot tub, it started thundering and lightening (literally, IT WAS A DARK AND STORMY NIGHT..........................)  Lights all over this little community were out, and we were scrambling with 2 tiny flashlights and 2 burned down candles.  It was an early night for us!!!
Steve says "it's like and adventure!"  Yes, it is, but I think I prefer adventures in a suite, with room service and a concierge.

We went to downtown Gatlingburg last night to a Rib and Wing Fest.  When we traveled for almost 2 years in the RV, it seemed like we missed every rib and/or BBQ fest "by just a few days"............so finally, we found one!  It was a lot of fun, and a lot of BBQ.  Gatlinburg is such a pretty town, and this week at least, the streets aren't crowded like we've seen before.  You can actually drive thru town in a few minutes as opposed to an hour when it's summertime.

The mountains are so beautiful.............we are going for a drive tomorrow.  The cabin we are in is located in the Arts & Crafts Community just a couple of miles from downtown.  It is the only place in the United States that is zoned "Arts & Crafts".  Kind of interesting.  Lots of great little shops and just about a 10 minute walk from our cabin.  Up and down hills, not like flat Florida streets we are used to.
Justin will be back today; he has to chaperone Prom as part of his student teaching.  His high school, Newport High School, had the roof torn off from those horrible storms two nights ago.

We had lunch in Newport with Justin and the teacher he's been student teaching with, and she had gotten access to their classroom and it seemed to be okay.

Anyway, a great trip to the mountains and visit with Justin.  Long drive home; fortunately, Steve likes to drive and I like to nap!

As of last Saturday, Justin has his Bachelor of Science in English and a minor in Secondary Education!!  Way to go Justin!!  So proud of him.  Now, a job is in the immediate future.............hopefully right in Newport.

There are also some pics of Perdido Key, FL, where we took a quick trip in March to see some great friends in Pensacola.

All for now!
Cheers!!
